Medals and Records for Club Athletes at the Weekend

Club members produced a host of medal winning and record setting performances at the weekend, on the country, road and track.

The main team competition taking place was the Kent Veterans Cross Country Championships, at Dartford, where the club won four team and six individual medals. The team victories came in both the under 35 and 45 women's categories, as Tonbridge won from seven and nine clubs, respectively. In the youngest age group Liz Weeks (3rd ), Claire Day (4th) and Nichola Evans (9th) were the scorers, whilst Tina Oldershaw (2nd), Nina Ridge (5th) and Rachel Fagg (16th) combined to win the older age group event.

There were three individual winners from the club, as Ben Reynolds took the over 50 men's title, Ross Kinloch the over 60s and Sue James won the over 65's women's event.

Two club indoor records fell at the weekend, the first going to Anton Bachorski, having his first indoor races of the Winter. Bachorski was competing in the open meeting at Lee Valley and had two races over the distance. Prior to this meeting his best time was 7.03 set in March and on this occasion he won his first race in 6.97, before later running another club under 20 men's record of 6.92. Also, at Lee Valley Elicia Lacey improved her under 13 girls' 60 metres hurdles record to 9.72.

On the roads, Lucy Reid won the Victory Five Mile race, at Portsmouth, on Sunday in 27.04, which improved her own club record by a second.

Also, on Sunday, Becky Morrish made her marathon debut in Valencia, Spain, where she ran 2.58.09, running the second half quicker than the first. This was the second fastest time ever set by a female from Tonbridge AC.

On Thursday, which was Thanksgiving Day in the USA, Chris Olley finished 5th in an international 5 kilometre road race in 14.03, just nine seconds away from the winner.

Tonbridge AC member, Cameron Payas, has been selected to compete for Gibraltar in this coming weekend's European Cross Country Championships, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal on Sunday.
